The Bunker of Copacabana has been an important and trendy part of the
Rio de Janeiro night life. For Brazilians it has nostalgic value,
as most have frequented the the danceclub or “boate”
as it’s called in Portuguese.

The Bunker has two dance floors playing different styles of music, from
hip hop, electronic music, transe and house music to rock. There
are 3 bars in the Copacabana discotheque and also the famous bed!
That’s right, looking closely you can discover a small entrance
which has a bed inside. Rarely used, it does bring something different
the local.

As you enter, you get that red feeling of actually entering a bunker
in Rio de Janeiro. The lights are dim and you can feel the atmosphere
of night life, dance. Of course you can’t avoid to hear the
music pounding from the main dancefloor. There is a tunnel to the
main dancefloor which often has live performance of different artists.
This time the Bunker had brazilian hip hop on the meny bringing
the crowd to life! There is also a chill area which used to be a
game room.

Now you can take a break from the rhythms and catch your breath with
an appetizer from the bar. The sofas are red with dimmed red lightings.
There is also a second dance floor playing different kind of music.
In my case, a Dj playing electronic music locked in a cage! Good
beats here!

Speaking of the Bunker in Rio de Janeiro, you can’t avoid mentioning
the small next door little bar called “Bem estar II”
meaning “well being II”.
The usual traditional procedure for the brazilians is hanging out here,
having some drinks and beers, talking, waiting for other friends
and so on.
The nightclubs located right next to the Bunker are the homosexual club
Le Boy and the lesbian club La Girl making an interesting mixture
of people gathering here. One thing that should be tried is the
caipirinha or caipivodka of Bem Estar II. They simply remove the
white strip in the middle of the lime and throw everything else
into a mixer. Served with ice, it’s simple, cheap, good and
strong! Be careful with these!
The Bunker has gone through renovations in December 2004, but have reopened
for January 2005. If you are in Rio de Janeiro, in Copacabana, this
is one of the clubs you can check out together with Fosfobox and
Mutante!
Enjoy Rio!
