Located in in Ipanema, the Emporio bar has long been a famous meeting
point for rock and alternative music lovers. However, fame from
various travel institutions has also change the atmosphere by attracting
tourists, drug sellers, prostitutes and Brazilian fortune hunters
wanting to meet tourists.
The local is still pleasant in the white little house with two
open floors, one small dance floor and two bars. The music is good,
playing rock and alternative music. Prices has gone up a bit to
2.50 reais for a chopp and 6 reais for a caipirinha.
There are also nice seating tables by the windows here, allowing
some fresh air when the place gets filled up. If you want some of
those you have to arrive early though, especially in the weekends.
The place is all about rock’n roll, even the waiters have
tattoo’s and some of them long hair. If you stay long enough,
you can stroll down to Ipanema beach hand catch the sun rise after
closing time.
However, most of my Brazilian friends tend to want to go elsewhere
unless we go as a group of friends and only then we usually stay
here to drink some caipivodka and beers before we move on to a new
place.
However, it’s worth a visit to see the masses of people gather
out in the street, also it’s good for meeting other tourists.
The best days for Emporio is the weekends, however it’s impossible
to say for sure when it will be a good day at emporio bar. Asking
Emporio frequenting Brazilians, they say you can usually see if
it will be good at Emporio by the movement from 12 to 1 at night.
Emporio closes at around 4.
