The eastern side of South America is protected by the continental shelf
making the conditions ideal for beach life. In Brazil hidden beaches
stretches out along the whole magnificent coast from the Amazon river
delta in the north, dancing Fortaleza, the sun of Natal, the reefs
of Recife, passing tropical Salvador and ending up in the marvellous
princess of the sea, Rio de Janeiro!
The Rio beach experience has something for any flavour, for young
and old, adventurers and sun slickers!
Most famous of all Rio de Janeiro beaches are the Copacabana and
Ipanema right in the city. Known for exotic Rio beach products and
rio beach wear, Copacabana is the origin of the bikini. Although
the story has it that two girls from Argentina were the first set
the new trend.
Copacabana is located in the south zone of Rio and is a brazil
beach landscape stretching out for 4 km. Ipanema lies right beside
with the spirit of ‘Garota de Ipanema’ (Girl of Ipanema)
preserving the laid back groove of Rio beach life. You can find
a map of the Rio beaches here!
However, these famous Brazilian beaches are well known, so much
time will not be spent on them.
The first secret and perfect surf spot of brazil hidden beaches,
is the Arpoador beach separating Copacabana and Ipanema. You can
find the entrance to the beach right behind the fort, following
the surf shops, because this is truly a great spot for catching
some waves!.
If you are new to surfing, but adventurous at heart, surfing boards
are cheap here. I suggest a long board or a foam board for the beginner,
then head across the road to Arpoador beach and stay in the foam
to begin with. Ask a Brazilian if in doubt, the brazilian culture
is really friendly, and one of the more enjoyable things about the
country.
Next treat in Brazil hidden beaches of Rio de Janeiro is Grumari
beach or Joá beach! This is a great beach for those seeking
privacy and freedom from the sometimes stressful Copacabana beach.
Here you are returning to raw nature, loosing the possibility of
sitting down at a beach bar, but you have the pleasure of entering
green.blue crashing waves of clean water!
Now to my favourite of the Brazil hidden beaches in Rio de Janeiro,
Prainha! The name translates to ‘the little beach’ in
English and is located remote from civilization, appearing as a
lagoon with mountains covered in green jungle surrounding your whole
view! It’s just you, the white powder sand, jungle, the warm
sun and the white foaming waves making that relaxing breaking sound.
This paradise is known as the most beautiful, and the best surfing
beach of Rio de Janeiro.
The downside is the location. It can be hard getting to Prainha
beach as buses don’t go here. The options are renting a car
or hiring a taxi to bring and get you at specified times. But taxis
are cheap in Rio
